Last year we produced an exhibition entitled ‘Walsall’s Great War’ to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War 1 and, by reproducing examples of photographs, documents and ephemera from the collections of Walsall Local History Centre, to reflect something of the effect that the conflict had on Walsall and its people.

Now, the images and captions from that exhibition have been put online using Flickr, so that anyone who didn’t have the chance to see the exhibition at Walsall Local History Centre between June-November 2014 can view it online.

You are invited to view the exhibition via the following link:

Victorian Easter Card

Please note that Walsall Local History Centre will be CLOSED from Friday 3rd April – Monday 6th April 2015 inclusive, including Saturday 4th April, for the Easter holiday.

We apologise for any inconvenience, and would like to wish all our readers and users a Happy Easter.

Our opening hours and access are changing

March 6, 2015 in Access, News, Opening Hours, WLHC by Stuart Williams

As from 7 April 2015 we will be reducing our opening hours at Walsall Local History Centre.

From that date onwards they will be as follows:

  • Tuesday 10am-4pm
  • Wednesday 10am-7pm
  • Thursday 10am-1pm
  • Saturday 10am-1pm

Changes to access

In addition, from the same date we will no longer be staffing our reception area, so access to the Centre will be via controlled entry.  Research room users and all visitors will enter the Centre by the same door as now but there will be a buzzer outside the door into reception.  All users and visitors will press the buzzer and announce themselves before being admitted.  Users and visitors will then enter the research room via the current reception to sign in.

The above changes are necessitated by the level of staff cuts required to meet the budget savings which the service has been asked to make.

We would appreciate your continued support of our service which is very much valued and your continuing input to how our services could be improved.
